Winners announced for worldwide fitness competition

After an eight month global search for the best fitness models, today the winners of Fittest Model 2010 are announced. Fittest Body 2010 saw fitness fanatics and bodybuilders around the world apply for the grand prize: a no holds barred photoshoot with prestigious photographer Luis Rafael and US$500 spending money.

Carissa Joy Monroe from Colorado Springs, USA and Jeff Grant from Tampa, USA were voted the overall winners. They will be flown to London, together with last year’s winners, on an all expenses paid photoshoot with Rafael and the ModelsHealth team.

Monroe began modeling at the beginning of 2010 and was recently placed in her first Figure Competition. Grant has already modeled for several national fitness magazines, including Muscle and Fitness, Flex and World Physique. He also starred in the reality television show Big Man on Campus.

The winners of Fittest Body 2009 were MC Barao and Art Ortiz. Since winning Fittest Body, Barao and Ortiz have achieved considerable success as professional models and actors.

Since winning Fittest Body 2009 Art has starred in the Fox reality TV show Seducing Cindy and is currently working alongside Brad Pitt on his latest movie Money Ball. He has also modeled for clothing companies in Japan and Australia and is signed with one of the biggest sports agencies in the world.

Barao was a finalist in Maxim’s Hometown Hottie competition and is the face of the Miss Smartie Pants USA Campaign and the Sneaker Summit Campaign.

The annual Fittest Body competition is run by ModelsHealth, a unique social networking site designed to help models, photographers and personal trainers make real life connections. Founded in 2009, ModelsHealth now hosts several
thousand members and over 8,000 photos.

The finalists were chosen from more than 100 applicants by a public vote with the winners being selected by a panel of judges, including last year’s winners and guest photographer Luis Rafael.

The photoshoot will take place in November 2010 both in the Modelshealth central London studios and on location in Cambridge, England.

Justin Tayler, photographer and founder of ModelsHealth, said:

“I am very grateful to everyone who participated in FittestBody 2010, with so many fantastic entrants it was really difficult for Luis, Art, MC and the team to choose the winners. I think Jeff and Carissa are worthy winners and look forward to meeting them in London.”

Talking about next year’s competition he commented:

“This year has shown us that there is such tremendous talent out there. We are in the process of planning an even bigger FittestBody 2011, which will see the introduction of qualifying heats and contestants ‘battling it out’ in a live final.”

Entry for the first qualifier of FittestBody 2011 begins online in November this year.
